My Estate Guide · The READY Method

A will says who gets what.
It doesn't tell your family what to do when you're gone.

When you die, the admin doesn't stop — it lands on the people you love. The READY Method writes down the 5-28-6 timeline: what to do in the first 5 days, what notifications matter in 28 days, and how to settle everything in 6 months.

  • Covers the 3 critical windows: 5 days, 28 days and 6 months.
  • Step-by-step plan plus fill-in records — no legal jargon.
  • Built for England & Wales — register, Tell Us Once, HMRC, probate.
  • Instant email delivery. Print at home, start this evening.
  • One-off payment, no subscription. 30-day money-back.

Built around the real England & Wales journey: GOV.UK, Tell Us Once, HMRC. Reviewed by probate professionals.

The gap no one warns you about

When you're gone, the admin doesn't stop. It lands on the people you love.

The stress of managing admin after a loss
The scavenger hunt

Your children going drawer by drawer, looking for bank statements, pension letters, insurance policies nobody knew about.

⚠ Without a plan: forgotten accounts, money lost forever
Tell Us Once doesn't tell your bank

The government tells utilities and HMRC. But your children still have to contact every bank, insurance company, pension provider individually.

⚠ Without a plan: duplicate notifications, accounts missed, delays
Money frozen, bills still coming

Accounts locked, but funeral directors, councils, and utilities still sending invoices. Probate takes months, but some bills can't wait.

⚠ Without a plan: family pays out of pocket, waits months to be reimbursed
From April 2027: Inheritance Tax changes everything

The Finance Act 2026 removes the main residence exemption. Your executor is now responsible for identifying every pension and paying tax due before probate can start.

⚠ Without a plan: pensions missed, tax penalties, executor personally liable

Not because those families didn't care. Because no one ever wrote it down.

87%

say sorting a loved one's affairs was stressful, and a third of executors had never done it before.

The READY Method

Five steps. One folder. Everything in order.

Five guided sections, in the order your family will actually need them. The fields are already there — you just fill in what you know.

R

Register & Secure

The first actions, in order: register the death (legal deadline: 5 days), order death certificates, arrange the funeral, secure the house.

⚠ Without it: funeral paid out of pocket, too few certificates, house left unattended
E

Engage Everyone

Tell Us Once covers the government (28-day window). The guide then takes your family through everything it doesn't — bank, mortgage, insurers, utilities, pensions.

⚠ Without it: loss re-explained 40 times, accounts missed, overpayments to repay
A

Arrange the estate

The steps to move forward: probate, valuation, debts, property — with the document checklist a professional will ask for.

⚠ Without it: probate stalled for one missing document, disputes between children
D

Declare to HMRC

Inheritance Tax due by end of 6th month. From April 2027, pensions included. The guide keeps the deadline visible and walks through what to declare.

⚠ Without it: tax penalties, interest charges, executor personally liable
Y

Your legacy, settled

Distribution correctly, in the right order, with the right people. Accounts closed. Pensions claimed. Nothing lost because no one knew it existed.

⚠ Without it: money pays out to wrong person, savings go unclaimed, family falls out
Two ways

The same week, two versions of it.

"In probate, two kinds of family come through the door. The ones who arrive with a plan — accounts listed, pensions named, the folder filled in — leave with the estate mapped out in an hour. The ones who arrive with nothing are told, gently, that this will take many months. Both loved their family just as much. The only difference was that one had a plan to follow."

I've finally stopped lying awake about it

My son now has a clear plan to follow — the pensions I'd half-forgotten, the policies, the order to do things in. One quiet afternoon and it was done.

Questions

Everything you might be wondering.

Is it just a place to write things down?

No — it's a step-by-step plan: what to do, who to contact and in what order, across the 5 days, 28 days and 6 months after a death. The fill-in records feed that plan so your family can simply follow it.

We've already made a will — do we still need this?

A will says who inherits. It doesn't give your family a plan for what to actually do. This kit provides exactly that. The two work together.

What does the pension change from April 2027 mean?

From 6 April 2027, most unused pension funds form part of your estate for Inheritance Tax. Your executor becomes personally responsible for identifying every pension and paying any tax due before probate is granted. This kit includes a pension register and nomination safeguard.

Doesn't Tell Us Once cover everything?

No. Tell Us Once notifies government departments only. It does not notify your bank, mortgage lender, insurers, utilities or private pensions. This kit takes your family through all of those, in order.

Is it physical or digital?

It's delivered instantly by email as downloadable, printable PDF documents. You print it at home and keep it together in one folder. Most people have it printed and started within the same evening.

Isn't it a bit morbid?

Most people tell us they feel genuine relief once it's done — the same feeling as finally getting your insurance in order. You're organising one last act of care for the people you love. And once it's in the drawer, it's off your mind.

You worked hard for what you have.
Don't let the last thing you leave be confusion.
